HOW TELEHEALTH WORKS AND WHEN TO USE IT

Telehealth may be a term you are becoming familiar with during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Technology can allow patients and physicians to communicate during these challenging times without an in-office visit.

The patient is able to discuss all of his/her symptoms and have a remote exam and discussion with the Ophthalmologist.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TELEHEALTH VISIT

Schedule your appointment with either:

Real time Audio and Video – via computer or camera-capable cell phone; OR

Audio Only – via land line telephone or cell phone.

Have your medication list and allergies list readily available before the Telehealth visit.

Be sure your device is adequately charged, and you have a reliable internet connection.

Your device should be set up in a way that the physician can clearly see and hear you.

Have a pen and paper ready to write down notes and suggestions from the physician.

Speak clearly and to-the-point regarding your problem, so your physician can best assist you.

Your Telehealth visit information is secure and protected.

During the COVID-19 health emergency, Medicare has expanded their coverage to include Telehealth services. Other health insurance providers’ coverage may vary for the Telehealth visit. To see if your Telehealth visit will be covered, please check PA State’s Health Department website, your insurance carrier’s website and the employee health benefits page from your employer.
